Introduction to Cognitive Support Technology

Cognitive Support refers to the assistive aspects of technology that enhance the mental capabilities (and avoid the limitations) of users (Wogalter& Mayhorn, 2005). In this presentation, participants will be introduced to the concept of Cognitive Support Technology (CST).  CST is technology specifically designed to meet the needs of Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities, individuals with Traumatic Brain Injury, seniors experiencing problems with memory, or anyone learning a difficult task. CST can be used to support the types of daily living tasks that a person needs to do, analyze the tasks and identify places where cognitive support may be needed. This session will focus upon support for individuals transitioning into the work environment. Participants will examine tools that present tasks in component steps in a visual and auditory (non-text) manner.
